Ciudad Alternativa y la Fundación Friedrich Ebert realizaron la presentación del libro " El Covid-19 en barrios urbano-marginales del Gran Santo Domingo: La desigualdad ratificada”, a través de un conversatorio virtual con las autoras, Maria Burgos y Gabriela Read, quienes presentaron los datos y resultados de las encuestas recopiladas en la investigación.
Las palabras de bienvenida estuvieron a cargo de Paula Rodríguez, coordinadora de proyectos de la FES, quien agradeció a las autoras por el diagnóstico realizado y manifestó las expectativas de que los resultados sirvan para poner en perspectiva la implementación de políticas.
“Desde la FES junto a Ciudad Alternativa, entendemos que la carencia de investigaciones que analicen las condiciones socioeconómicas de las familias y los contextos en que viven constituye una de las barreras principales para la construcción e implementación de políticas que garanticen la vida digna de todos y todas; esta es la razón fundamental por la que nos hemos unificado esfuerzos para impulsar la investigación que hoy presentamos” agrego Rodríguez.
La actividad conto con la participación de Rosa Cañete, Directora de Análisis de Pobreza, Desigualdad y Cultura Democrática del Ministerio de Economía, Planificación y Desarrollo (MEPyD), como comentarista. “Es muy importante para el país el trabajo de reconceptualizar la desigualdad, las condiciones de vulnerabilidad, mostrar las fortalezas y resignificar la mirada en el país hacia estas poblaciones. El estudio lo hace y es un importante aporte.” dijo.
Sobre el libro
La investigación se realizó en el marco de la situación que atraviesa actualmente República Dominicana por el estado de emergencia declarado desde marzo a raíz de la pandemia del COVID-19. Presenta un diagnóstico de los impactos socioeconómicos del COVID-19 en hogares que forman parte de los barrios urbano-marginales del Gran Santo Domingo, período marzo-octubre 2020.
Busca describir los medios o vías de respaldo económico que han tenido los hogares de los barrios urbano-marginales para contrarrestar la reducción de las actividades laborales desenlazadas por el estado de emergencia. Identificar los mecanismos y niveles de acceso a consumo esenciales, percepción y emociones desarrolladas por los hogares durante el estado de emergencia; conocer el manejo de las medidas de distanciamiento social llevadas a cabo dentro y fuera de la vivienda para prevenir el COVID-19 e indagar sobre los efectos que ha tenido el estado de emergencia en las condiciones económicas de los hogares.
