Santo Domingo.- La Fundación Friedrich Ebert (FES) lamentó hoy el fallecimiento de la reconocida política y educadora Ivelisse Prats de Pérez destacando sus grandes aportes como una gran aliada de esa institución durante los 40 años en los ha trabajado en el país a favor del fortalecimiento de la democracia dominicana.
“Su compromiso con los valores de la social democracia y su entrega a la formación política de las juventudes dominicana marcaron los lazos de la colaboración, por lo que siempre será recordada”, indica la fundación mediante un comunicado.
En ese sentido, la FES dirigió una nota luctuosa al Partido Revolucionario Moderno (PRM) lamentando profundamente su fallecimiento y donde expresa sus condolencias a familiares y amigos de quien fuera un gran referente en la política y educación dominicana.
Ivelisse Prats de Pérez fue una destacada docente durante muchos años del programa de Formación Política Construyendo Agentes de cambio que realiza la Fundación Friedrich Ebert.
Durante los años 80, como dirigente política del Partido Revolucionario Dominicanos (PRD) participó en una serie de encuentros con homólogos de la región y seminarios organizados por el Centro de estudios democráticos de América Latina (CEDAL), una institución situada en Costa Rica y auspiciada por la FES.
El fallecimiento de Prats de Pérez se produjo el pasado domingo por complicaciones de salud a los 89 años.
Fue la primera presidenta del PRD, siendo la primera mujer en asumir la presidencia de un partido político en toda Latinoamérica y única en la República Dominicana.
El liderazgo y sensibilidad social de doña Ivelisse se cimentaron desde el momento que toma la iniciativa de fundar en 1970 la Asociación Dominicana de Profesores (ADP) y dirigirla, a fin de defender los derechos de los maestros dominicanos.
